1. Search Engine Submission: Submit your site only in 4 major search engine, which includes Google, Yahoo, Live and Ask. Other search engines usually get the result from these search engines.

2. Twitter : Take advantage of It! It is extremely useful, I got a thousands followers in a week. It gives a big opportunity to spread the buzz about your website.

3. Directory listing: It gives your site a lot of credibility. Submit your site in Dmoz.org, it’s free!

4. Blogging: Have a blog for your site, use WordPress blogging platform. It gives your visitors to keep up-to-date about your site and also lets you communicate with them.

5. Article Submission: Submit your articles on major articles directory such as Ezine Articles, Article City and Article Dashboard. Put a link about your website at the bottom of the page.

6. Online Forums: Take advantage of the forum marketing. Build a thread on your niche-related forums and link your site on your signature.

7. Online Press Release: It spreads a buzz about your site on other sites. There are many online press release website, write a small press release in all of them.

8. Squidoo It: Squidoo is an excellent option to build visitors and back links. Create a quality lens and link it back your website.

9. RSS It: It allows your visitors to keep up-to-date about your site. They are notified about any changes.

10. YouTube It: Video blogging gets more visitors nowadays than normal blogging. As some people hate reading, a video blog can help in these cases.

These methods are extremely effective to build a free targeted long lasting traffic. And always aim to bring your visitors back to your website.Free marketing does not costs you anything but your time. But remember, your website needs to be good in order to attract visitors.
